Sabato 7 aprile 2012 sono state annunciate le nomination dello Science Fiction Achievement Award, il prestigioso riconoscimento annuale per opere di fantasy e fantascienza più conosciuto come Premio Hugo. 

Nella stessa occasione è stata resa nota anche la rosa dei finalisti del John W. Campbell Award, per il miglior scrittore esordiente di sf e fy.

Tra i nomi dei candidati allo Hugo 2012 troviamo George R.R. Martin, China Miéville, John Scalzi, vari episodi della serie Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter e i doni della morte, e il film di Martin Scorsese Hugo.

La votazione finale inizierà lunedì 9 Aprile e proseguirà fino alla notte fra martedì 31 Luglio e mercoledì 1 Agosto 2012.

Il premio Hugo viene assegnato ogni anno in occasione del congresso mondiale degli appassionati di fantascienza, il  World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), ed è dedicato a Hugo Gernsback, fondatore nel 1926 della prima rivista di genere: Amazing Stories.

La Worldcon 2012 si terrà a Chicago (Illinois, USA), dal 30 agosto al 3 settembre 2012.
