The relationships with the people that I worked with there. I really enjoyed working with some of the people that I met in New Zeland, and I miss them a great deal.

One of the most memorable thing was actually esploring New Zeland itself, the landscapes, by car and helicopter. Going out with a team of people just looking for Middle Earth in various part of the country, a wonderful thing to do.

The last trip I had was in 2003. It was just me, a coordinator, the photographer and the helicopter pilot. We were looking for the backgrounds for some of the sets and because we were just going to be photographics and didn't have to worry about whether a film troupe could get in there. We could go to the most inaccessible and remote places, it was absolutely beautiful.

When you think about working with other directors, what would you like them to be?

The great thing about working with Peter Jackson is that he has such a visual imagination. That's important for me. He thinks that design is one of the most important aspects of a film and he's totally involved in the design process, right from the beginning. Other directors have a more a hands-off approach. For Peter is a real kind of quest to come up with the right design that really matches his vision. Given that, I believe that there are lots of other exellent directors out there, and it would be nice to work with some of them. With Terry Gilliam, for example.

I did work with Ridley Scott, briefly, on Legend, and he's another person who has a very powerful sense of the importance of design and how a film can be visually stunning and very striking.

Is there any particular author or story that you would like to illustrate?

Yes, there are lots of other authors and lots of other works that I'd like to illustrate. I've been very lucky so far in being able to illustrate the work of some of my favorite authors, and I'd like to continue that, but my priority really is to further explore the world of Myth, so my next project is to illustrate Ovidio. After that, I have probably five or six projects in the back of my mind that I'd like to do at some point, and I'm actually writing something at the moment as well. If I can manage to finish that, I'll be very happy.
